Connect Stripe
Link your own Stripe account to the site. Payments, refunds and payouts stay in your Stripe dashboard.
Needs Particle · 10 minutes
Before you start
- You are the site's owner, on Particle or Wave.
- Stripe will ask for your legal name or business name, a bank account for payouts, an address and a phone number. Have them to hand.
- One Stripe account per nertia account. A second site you own shares the same connection and keeps its own shipping, tax and products.
nertia uses Stripe Connect. The account is yours: Stripe's dashboard, payouts, disputes, receipts and tax reports belong to you, and nertia takes no cut of a sale.
1. Press Connect Stripe
On your site, pick Store. The first card reads Connect Stripe to sell on this site. Payments go straight to your Stripe account. nertia takes no cut. Press Connect Stripe.

2. Finish on Stripe
Stripe opens. Sign in to an account you already have or create one, then answer its questions: who you are, what you sell, where to pay out. Stripe decides what it needs; nertia never sees the answers.
When Stripe is done it sends you back to the Store tab. If you close the window halfway, come back to the Store tab and press Continue setup to pick up where you left off.
3. Read the status
Back on nertia the card shows one of three states:
| Badge | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ready | Stripe can take payments for this account | Nothing. Set up shipping next |
| Setup not finished | Stripe still needs a detail or a document | Continue setup |
| A warning that Stripe has paused payments | Stripe restricted the account | Open Stripe dashboard and read what it asks for |
A second badge, Test mode, appears while the connection runs on Stripe's test keys. Test cards work, real cards do not. Every store is in test mode until live stores open; the go live checklist says how you will know.
Open Stripe dashboard takes you to the right dashboard for the mode you are in.

4. Let the store open
Connecting also opens the store: the product, cart and order pages are added to the draft and the cart control appears in the header. Below the connection card the Store settings card is waiting, covered in Set shipping and tax.
Done
Stripe is linked and the store is open on the draft. Next: set shipping and tax.
Problems
- "Only the site owner can change the store connection." You are a manager or an editor. Ask the owner to connect.
- The badge stays on Setup not finished after I finished on Stripe. Reload the Store tab; it asks Stripe for the current status on every visit. If Stripe is still reviewing a document the badge waits with it.
- "Stripe is not set up for stores yet." nertia's live Stripe switch is off. Stores run in test mode until it is on.
